March 11, 1930 — October 13, 2023
It is with overwhelming sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother and great grandmother Georgina, after a battle with cancer.
Georgina was born in Strachur, Scotland on March 11, 1930. After her school years she worked in the local district forest office, it was there that she met Robert John Cavanagh a young traveler from Australia, they began a two-year courtship. In early 1955 Robert moved to Canada as the next adventure on his tour of the world. In November 1955 Georgina boarded a ship in Glasgow bound for Montreal, Canada to be with Robert. After a long sea adventure, she took a train to travel west to meet Robert. She arrived on a very snowy November night in Ashcroft, B.C. wearing high heels and a fancy dress. Robert and Georgina were married in Kamloops within a week and began their life together in Canada. They had 3 children, all born in Lillooet, B.C. In 1967 they relocated to Vanderhoof until 1974 when they moved to Merritt, B.C. In 1982 they relocated to Kamloops where she lived for the past 41 years.
In 2005, shortly after celebrating their 50th wedding anniversary, Robert passed away.
Georgina made friends wherever she went. She was an active curler, lawn bowler, golfer and community volunteer at many events and locations. Her biggest passion was playing cards, canasta and cribbage being her favorites.
Georgina is survived by her son Jim (Diana), daughter Kathy (Mike), son John (Cindy), 9 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren.
Her family would like to thank the staff at Bedford Manor and at the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice for their kindness and care during her final days.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kamloops Hospice Association.
A private family service was held at Hillside Cemetery on October 20, 2023.
You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Cavanagh family.
