George Phillip Mehrfert of Kamloops passed away on May 13, 2024, at 59 years of age. He is survived by his son Brandon Mehrfert, mother Lorraine Powell, sisters Kathy (Brian) Nadeau and Tracy (Dean) Wedel, brothers Franz (Elvira) Mehrfert and Peter (Heather) Mehrfert, stepbrother Bruce (Anne-Marie) Powell, nieces and nephews (Josh, Kate, Emma, Amelie, Matthias, Tristan, Everett, Marlena) and a number of relatives in western Canada.
George was born in Regina, Saskatchewan and grew up in Esterhazy and Regina before moving with his family to Enderby, B.C. as a teenager. He was the oldest of five children and liked to remind the youngsters of that fact. He was a fun loving and somewhat daring child, sometimes testing the waters before considering the consequences. He spent some of his early adult years in Vernon and Vancouver where he met Colleen Oakley and together, they had a son, Brandon. Later years brought him to Williams Lake and eventually Kamloops. He was focused on being a providing father to the best of his abilities, and worked steadily in the moving industry. He was a hard-working and valued employee of Milton’s movers for many years, where he developed strong friendships with his co-workers.
George was diagnosed with cancer in his lungs in 2023 and battled with the toll that took on his once strong and resilient body. He passed away in the Royal Inland Hospital surrounded by his family. His fun-loving spirit will be missed by all that knew him.
A Celebration of Life ceremony will be held on Saturday May 18 at 11:00 a.m. at the Kamloops United Church located at 421 St. Paul St.
You may offer a message of condolence at Cypress Funeral & Cremation Services for the Mehrfert family.
