Elisa Luigia Gastaldo (Nee Durigan)
December 29, 1926 – January 12, 2017
As she said, “it is hard to kill a stubborn weed,” however, the family of Elisa Gastaldo is saddened to announce she passed away on January 12, 2017 at the age of 90 after a long battle with declining health. She is now reunited with her husband Sergio who passed away on September 30, 2011.
Elisa was born in Giavera Del Montello, Treviso, Italy on December 29, 1926 and immigrated to Canada on January 1, 1954. She married Sergio on January 30, 1954 and they built a wonderful life together.
Elisa was a quiet, gentle and loving wife, mother, grandmother (Nonna), Aunt (Zia), and friend. She was the happiest when camping, fishing, and searching for wild mushrooms with Sergio and family. She looked forward to the regular Sunday picnics with family and friends where she was always ready for a good game of bocce. Her family loved her weekly batch of homemade bread. Our family will miss her greatly.
Elisa is survived by her son, Mario; daughter, Lucia; grandchildren, Liza and Thomas; great grandchildren, Harlowe and Owen; nephew, Ermes; niece, Rosanna (Peter) and their children, Marina and Alexander. She is also survived by her sister in Italy, Marcella and other relatives in Italy and Australia.
Elisa is predeceased by her parents, Mario and Lucia Durigan; brothers, Gilberto and Tarcisio and sister-in law, Emma.
