It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gary Nobuyuki Fukushima. On Thursday August 22, 2019 after many years of enduring illness, Gary passed away peacefully surrounded by loved ones at the age of 70.
Gary was born on February 3, 1949 in Taber, Alberta to Fusagoro and Tsuyako Fukushima. Gary received his Bachelor and Masters of Education from The University of Victoria and enjoyed his rewarding career working as an Administrator. On July 7, 1979 Gary married Sandy Hoyem and they raised 3 children Jessica, Kevin, and Alison.
Gary had a passion for vintage cars and woodworking. He enjoyed collecting cars and others around him benefited from receiving some of his beautiful handmade furniture. As an educator, he touched the lives of many people. He took pride in receiving National recognition for his role in the development of the Peter Skene Ogden Secondary Forestry Program. Gary also developed and ran the Kaetsu International English Immersion Program. Gary was a caring and compassionate person who was always able to offer up telling advice and a funny story. He possessed an amazing sense of generosity.
Gary will be greatly missed by his family Sandy, Jessica, Kevin, and Alison, his grandchildren Lars, Oskar, and Seth, his siblings Rob, Allan, Karen, and June and his many nieces and nephews. Gary is predeceased by his parents and his eldest brother Edwin and youngest brother Freddy.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
