Frith John Powell of Kamloops, passed away on March 7, 2026, at 77 years of age surrounded by family.
Frith is survived by his wife of 53 years Sheila Powell, his children: Howard (Stephanie) Powell of Fredericton, NB, Scott (Kirsten) Powell of Kamloops, B.C., and Sebastian (Michelle) Powell of Cochrane, AB, Grand Children; Liam, Emily, Bentley, Rykker, Weston, Peyton and Avery, and his sister Dilys Balchin of England.
Born in England, he carried with him a quiet curiosity about the world that would shape the course of his life. As a teenager, he met his future wife, Sheila, on a stream train while they were both still in high school — a chance encounter that grew into a lifelong partnership filled with love, laughter, and shared adventure.
He later attended university in Brighton, where he pursued his studies and began laying the foundation for a career in technology. In 1980, he made the life-changing decision to move his family to Canada, where he built both a home and a lasting legacy.
Over a distinguished 31-year career in computer software, he contributed his skills and insight to a rapidly evolving industry. Among his proudest professional experiences was working with IBM in support of the Olympic Games, an opportunity that reflected both his expertise and dedication.
Outside of his professional life, he found joy in the outdoors and in quiet challenges of the mind. He loved cycling along scenic routes, hiking forested trails, and snowshoeing through winter landscapes. On quieter days, he could often be found happily absorbed in a Sudoku puzzle.
He will be remembered for his steady presence, thoughtful mind, and the many memories he created with those who knew and loved him.
A Celebration of Life will take place April 5, 2026 from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at the Hal Rogers Centre in Kamloops.
You may offer a message of condolence at Cypress Funeral and Cremation Services for the Powell family.
