September 5, 1933 – March 19, 2025
It is with profound sadness but great love and gratitude that we announce the passing of our beloved father, Frederick (Fred) Charles Byers.
Dad passed away on March 19, 2025, at the age of 86 years.
He was born on December 13, 1938, in Mission, B.C. As a young child he moved to Forestburg, Alberta where he spent most of his youth. Later, as a young man, he made his way to Maillardville, B.C. where he found employment with Canadian Forest Products and met the love of his life, Evelyn. Dad and Mom married in 1963 and settled into a life filled with family, friendship and love. They raised 3 children in Coquitlam and Dad dedicated 38 years to Canfor before retiring in 1997 and relocating to Kamloops. During their retirement, Dad and Mom enjoyed many years of camping, fishing, hunting and working around the house, as they both loved spending time in the outdoors and took great pride in their home and yard. He and Mom also enjoyed bowling with a local team and Dad participated in the B.C. Senior’s Games in 2011 where he brought home several gold medals. Their greatest joy however was spending time with their family, especially their grandchildren. Family was always their top priority. In 2018, after 55 years of marriage, Dad was pre-deceased by Mom.
Dad then moved into a retirement home where he made many friends and some very special connections. He was very social and loved participating in card games and even organized several events such as crib night, bingo and the annual Grey Cup and Superbowl parties.
Dad was a huge hockey fan and spent many a game coaching from the couch.
He is survived by his children Sandy (Branwen), Debbie, Craig (Yvonne), his grandchildren Mitchell (Kasey-Jae), Joshua (Bailey), his great granddaughter Blair, his sisters Shirley and Sharon, and many nieces and nephews.
Dad was well liked in his community and loved dearly by his family and he will be greatly missed. The family would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to the staff of the Kamloops Community Dialysis Unit for their wonderful treatment of Dad over the past 13 years.
A celebration of life will take place on April 26, 2025, at the Holiday Inn, 675 Tranquille Rd. Kamloops, in the Tranquille meeting room at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Kidney Foundation would be greatly appreciated.
You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Byers family.
