May 1, 1927 – October 1, 2024
Frances Olive (Fay) Walton who was born on May 1, 1927, Capreol, Ontario, to Arthur and Olive Linley, immigrants to Canada from England and passed on October 1, 2024, in Kamloops, British Columbia.
Early life was difficult, as her mother died within days of giving birth to Fay and Fay’s Dad passed when she was only 12 years of age.
Following Olive’s death, Arthur married Connie and they had 3 children.
When Arthur passed, Connie moved the family to Toronto for better employment opportunities.
When Fay was 14 years old, she left school and went to work for CN Telegraph in order to assist her stepmother and family during difficult financial times. Work was a passion for Fay throughout her life as she derived great satisfaction from doing a good job, the people she met and the independence gained from making her own way. After marrying and having son Shawn, the family moved to Victoria, B.C., where Fay was employed for many years as a secretary with the RCMP, CFB Esquimalt and the Saanich school district. Fay loved Vancouver Island and especially the home on 5 acres in Brentwood Bay. Work and home life kept her busy and she was active in the Anglican Church. On official retirement, Fay moved to Summerland where she found a new passion, volunteering at the local thrift shop.
In her later years, Fay moved to Kamloops to be close to her family. She continued ‘working’, by volunteering at the RIH thrift store on Victoria Street and did so until she was 93. Fay made many close friends throughout her life and she kept in touch with all of them. She was diligent about her health and appearance, a fashionable lady who ensured that her hat, earrings and lipstick were ‘just right’. Right up to the end, her mind and memory were razor sharp and her hearing so good, she could literally hear a pin drop. Fay was a compassionate, dedicated and driven person with great resolve, who would go out of her way to help anyone; she truly was one of a kind. She loved her family so much and she will be dearly missed. She is survived by Shawn (Deb), granddaughters Caitie (Dan), Meghan (Ryan) and Aislinn, great grandchildren Lillian, Louisa, Clark and Leon, much loved nephew Tim and other nieces and nephews. The family thanks Dr. Amanda Bosman and her staff for their care and kindness, the nurses and doctors on 6 North and 7th floor Gaglardi Tower at Royal Inland Hospital, as well as the staff and caregivers at Marjorie Willoughby Snowden hospice who do such amazing work and who made Fay’s final journey as comfortable as possible.
There will be a tea in Fay’s honour in the hall at St. Paul’s Anglican Church on Nicola Street, at a yet to be specified date.
