August 3, 1933 – August 13, 2025
After 92 remarkable years filled with love, laughter, and grace, our beautiful mother, Frances Catherine Newman, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the love of her family.
Frances, a two-time survivor of breast cancer, lived her life with an open heart, never speaking an unkind word and always ready to help anyone in need. Her kindness knew no bounds, her generosity touched countless lives, and her gentle spirit left an indelible mark on everyone fortunate enough to know her.
Frances was predeceased by her loving husband, Kevin, in 2016. She was deeply devoted to her family and was always proud to share her story of her specially chosen children (adopting) whom she is survived by, her son Patrick (Patty) Newman, daughter Lorraine (Sean) Donaghy, grandchildren Kali Newman (great-grandchildren Oliver and Avery Pilon), Austin (Megan, Saige) Hoffman, Adam (Alexis) Newman, and Ali (Gavin, who are expecting her first great granddaughter in the fall) Hoffman-Spooner, her sister Barbara (Gordon) Jacobs; sister in-law Marie McDonald, sister in-law Sonia Newman and brother in-law Paul Newman as well as so many treasured nieces and nephews who loved her. She was also predeceased by her parents, Thomas and Ellen McDonald; her cherished brothers Gerry and Jack McDonald, Carl Newman, and Joan Beach.
Independent until just four months before her passing, mom lived life to the fullest. She never missed church, never skipped a card game, and was always eager to take on a new sewing project. She held a special place in her heart for her Newfoundland roots and the lifelong friendships she built. She wished to honour those special friends who visited and spent time with her, including her grandson’s wife, Alexis, who provided exceptional care and compassion over the years — especially in these last few months, sharing countless days and hours together. She also treasured the friendship of Goldie and Ian Mitchell, Maria Paulus, Heather Hoffman, and her dear friend Vivian.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to the caring staff at Thompson View Lodge, as well as the wonderful nurses at Kamloops Royal Inland Hospital 6 North, and GT7 palliative care for their kindness, compassion, and thoughtful care during her final days.
A memorial gathering will be held at a later date for invited guests.
