March 11, 1930 – July 6, 2016
On the afternoon of July 6, 2016 Horace Fairman passed away at Royal Inland Hospital, 86 years after his birth there. He is survived by his wife Alma of 58 years and his 4 children Ralph (Hildi), Bruce, John (Rose) and Marlene (Randy), and grandchildren, Matthew, Garrett, Tristan and Natasha as well as Miss Ellie, his special grandpuppy. He was predeceased by his parents, Henry and Mabel Fairman, as well as his three sisters Mabel, Emma and Henrietta.
Horace was born on March 11, 1930 and grew up in Kamloops, graduating from KHS in 1948. His father worked for the CNR and every summer growing up was looked forward to with anticipation as they were spent at the railroad outpost at Mt. Robson. On entering the workforce, Horace’s knack with numbers and bookkeeping soon found him working in the mining offices in Bralorne and then at Mackenzies in Williams Lake. It was here that he met his wife Alma in early 1957. After several attempts at firing Alma because she couldn’t speak English very well (only to have the owner rehire her!), they got married in October of 1957.
They started their family after moving to Kamloops in 1959. Horace worked in Kamloops as an insurance broker (including starting his own agency) and office manager for many years.
Outside of his family, Horace was very proud of the Rayleigh home that he and Alma built and lived in since 1962. He was happiest being at home surrounded by family. Horace struggled with Alzheimer’s the last two years of his life but still lived at home until his passing.
The family would like to thank all of the care workers at High Country Healthcare, especially Tammy.
No service by request. Celebration of Life to be held at the family home on Friday, July 15 from 2:00 to 4:00 pm.
Donations in Horace’s memory can be made to the Alzheimer’s Society.
