August 25, 1932 – June 12, 2023
Evelyne McKay (Craig) was born on August 25, 1932 in Messiter, B.C. and passed away on June 12, 2023.
Predeceased by her husband of 67 years Len McKay. “He can finally stop waiting for her!”. She was predeceased by her 3 Sisters, Vernetta, Bernice and Molly.
Mom was devoted to her family and to her friends. Evelyne will be lovingly remembered by her children, Gordie, Laurel, Robin (Maria) and Melody (J.B.). Grandma will be lovingly remembered by her 6 grandchildren, Matthew, Landon, Maiah McKay and Oliver, Finn and Theo Cole. Auntie Evelyne also helped raise several of her sisters nieces and nephews that will fondly remember her.
Evelyne had several jobs over the years, she was the Avon lady in Valleyview and Westwold. She was a seamstress making both wedding dresses and bridesmaid’s dresses. Which lead to opening a Dress Shop in Valleyview, Contempra Fashions. She eventually found her passion with children and opened Kiddies Korner in 1980 after a stint at home. Eventually she opened Aberdeen Daycare which became Summit Childcare then 6th Avenue Childcare and Gingerbread House Daycare.
Len introduced her to cross-country skiing she enjoyed going with friends and family. She enjoyed Tai Chi at Cottonwood Manor with Jan and friends, A Touch for Health with Helen Bonnett and the group.
Evelyne travelled throughout BC, Yukon and the west coast. Travelling to California to see her sister enjoying the Oregon Coast. Later in life she travelled to Europe, Spain, Portugal with friends and family. She really enjoyed Maui with her children and grandkids several times.
A special thanks to Patricia Haggard, (Auntie Pat), best friends for 76 years. They still were going for lunch and coffee right up until Evelyne last couple of weeks. Her niece Jennifer Lyons who helped so she could enjoy her final years at home. The wonderful staff at Gemstone for their fabulous care for mom and support for family. You are the best!
Thank You to Dr. Paul Farrell who put up with all of mom’s spunkiness and opinions. All of her 5min appointments which turned into 40min appointments. She loved going to see you it was always an opportunity for her to be sassy. A Huge Thank You to you Dr. Farrell.
