January 17, 1952 – February 5, 2023
Emmy was the mother of her only daughter, Debbie (Blair) Andrew of Carlyle, SK. She was grandmother to Nicole (Brett), Carson, Brock (Mia) and GG to Theo and Linden.
Emmy was survived by her brother Eric (Barb) Groess of Kamloops, BC and her sister Angie ( John) Hall of Edmonton, AB. Her many nieces and nephews called her ‘Auntie Emmy’ or ‘Granty Em’ and she loved them dearly.
Her life’s journey began in Regina, SK but her family soon moved to Winnipeg where she spent most of her life raising Deb, working, playing slowpitch, broomball, curling and spending time with family. She enjoyed spending time with family at Beconia Beach and later on at her own cabin at Ottermere Lake in Ontario. Emmy enjoyed gardening, fishing, hockey and football and loved cheering on the Saskatchewan Rough Riders and the Chicago Blackhawks.
A highlight of her career was the 21 years spent working at the Winnipeg City Police Department in stores and evidence control. She loved meeting and helping the officers and new recruits. Building those relationships was what she missed most after retirement.
Emmy has gone through her share of trials as we all have but she is a survivor! Three years ago, she chose a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. This faith in a Good God and the unconditional love of her family and friends is what kept her hopeful and joyful as the lung cancer progressed.
“They treat me like a Queen! I have the best care ever!” was what she told everyone who came to see her or called while she was at the Marjorie Willoughby Hospice centre. We, her family, will be forever grateful for the love and compassion they showed her day and night.
Knowing we will see her again someday allows us to find peace in her passing and the joy of life.
