August 26, 1931 – June 18, 2020
Edward Norman (Ted) Asselstine of Merritt BC went home to be with his Lord and Saviour on June 18, 2020 at Nicola Valley Hospital, Merritt, BC at the age of 88 years.
Ted was born August 26, 1931 in Calgary AB in the very home where he grew up. After high school graduation Ted worked at a variety of jobs and attended one year at Prairie Bible Institute in Three Hills AB and then went on to complete his schooling at the University of Guelph, in Ontario, studying to become a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine. Upon graduation he began his practice as a Veterinarian in Innisfail AB.
In 1965 he moved with his young family to New Zealand where they lived, worked and explored for 4 years. Returning to Canada he continued his veterinary career in Victoria then Courtenay where he settled with his wife and 5 children. Ted practiced at the Comox Valley Animal Hospital which he eventually purchased and operated until he retired. Following their time in the Comox Valley he and Bernice moved to Bowser, BC then in their later years moved onto Merritt BC.
Throughout life Ted’s love for the Lord was evident in everything he put his hand to, working always with thoughtful integrity, raising his children to know and follow the Lord with a loving and gentle strength, always leading and teaching about good character through his own humble example. Ted’s sense of humour along with his laughter were contagious as was his love of nature and spending time outdoors in creation. Ted was a dedicated church member and volunteered many hours in service to the Lord and for as long as he could took on roles of leadership within his home congregation. Ted will be sadly missed by his loving wife Bernice Asselstine and children; Blake (Marilyn), Mark (Lorna), Lynette (Peter), Graeme (Helen) and Craig (Sabrina). He is also survived by grandchildren; Kari (Patrick), Joshua (Natasha), Matthew, Rachelle (Joost), Rebekah (Jacob), Kristy, Andrew (Alyssa), Paige and Isaac and 9 great grandchildren.
The service will be held on Friday, June 26, 2020 at Nicola Valley Evangelical Free Church and is for family only.
In lieu of flowers, donations in honour of Ted’s memory may be made to the Parkinson Society British Columbia, 890 W Pender St #600, Vancouver, BC V6C 1J9. https://www.parkinson.bc.ca/donate/memorial-gifts
