Art passed away peacefully at the age of 86. He was, and will always be loved and cherished by his six children. Leila (Rick) Davis, Louise (Bill) Monk, Lynnette Duggan, Andrew (Judy) Duggan, Donna Walker, Deanna (Duncan) Gay, twelve grandchildren, Pamela (Robert) Clements, Donald Davis, Dawn Thoreson, Christopher Winfield, Terri (Eli) van Ek-Veenstra, Justin (Jennafer) Duggan, Kevin (Megan) Duggan, Cale Walker, Tyler Walker, Lucas Walker, Brandi (William) Walter and Jessie Gay, fifteen great-grandchildren, Mark, Monica, Raistlin, Viktor, Kitira, Dalamar, Rikus, Draven, Willem, Thomas, Daniel, Logan, Piper, Oliver, Charlotte, and one great-great-granddaughter Leliana.
Art was predeceased by his parents, his sisters Iola and Thelma (Babs), his wife Norma and his son-in-law Dale Walker.
Art was born in Victoria, BC and lived in various communities around Vancouver Island. In 1948, Art joined the Navy and then in 1949 this handsome sailor met Norma Johnson, the love of his life. They married in 1950 and raised 5 children on a farm in Metchosin (near Victoria). Art continued his service in the Navy until 1956. After that he worked at the Navy Ammunition Depot and was active in his community serving on the Community Hall Committee, square dancing and playing an instrumental role in the organizing of the local volunteer Fire Department. In 1963, transferring to the Kamloops Ammunition Depot, they moved to Dallas (which was not part of the city at that time) and added one more child to the family. They helped organized the volunteer Fire Department and Ladies Auxiliary, raising the funds to purchase a fire truck and build a fire hall.
Art served as Chief of Firehall 6 until his retirement in 1990. In 1973 Dallas became a part of the city of Kamloops and Art went to work for the city’s water department as a pump mechanic and continued there until his retirement in 1995. Throughout their marriage, Art and Norma spent many happy times with their family, camping and fishing in the Kamloops area, and enjoyed gardening and woodworking together.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Hospice (where Norma spent her final days) or the Salvation Army would be greatly appreciated.
