October 27, 1922 – April 7, 2016
Jim was born in New Westminster in 1922 to Richard and Barbara (Nee Wilkie). His father’s family were pioneers in Hatzic, near Mission, his mother’s family in Fort Langley. Jim attended Point Grey Junior High and Lord Byng. In 1943 he enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy, serving in the North Atlantic on HMCS Stetler until 1945. After graduation from UBC he taught English in Mission, Victoria, and in West Vancouver 1964-1986 until his retirement. He was predeceased by his four sisters; Eileen Givens, Dorothy Davies, Merle Chisholm and Donna Pringle. On April 7, 2016 Jim passed away in Kamloops, BC. He is survived by his loving family: his wife, Sheelagh, their daughter Ruth (Brian) Hayashi of Kamloops, son Hugh of New Westminster and granddaughter, Jennifer Hayashi. The family sincerely thanks the staff at Overlander Residential Care Home, where Jim has resided for the last two years. By request there will be no service at this time.
