She is predeceased by her parents LeRoy and Naomi Hirschi (nee Keetch) and siblings DeVon Hirschi, LaNae (Neil) Morgan, and Jean Hirschi.
Doreen was born in Montpelier, ID, USA on July 21st, 1945. She grew up in St. Charles, ID on the banks of beautiful Bear Lake in a loving family. After high school, she went to Utah State University and earned a Bachelor of Science Education degree. During her university days she met her eternal sweetheart. They were married on Nov. 23, 1966, in the LDS temple in Logan, Utah. They made their first home in Ogden, Utah where she had her first teaching position. In the following years, she lived and taught in Colorado, Texas, and settled in Kamloops, BC in 1976, having had children all along the way. From 1988-2004 she ran the education program at Raleigh Correction Center and Kamloops Regional Correction Center.
If Doreen could be summed up in one word, it would be ‘selfless.’ She spent her entire life serving her family and others. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. She served in many teaching and leadership positions in the church and in the spring of 2004, along with her husband, she had the privilege of going to New Zealand to serve as a missionary for eighteen months.
She had endless energy and was always entertaining grandchildren, decorating beautiful cakes, planning family get-togethers, tending to her bountiful yard and garden, canning, cooking, teaching, taking her family skiing and on camping/fishing trips, and supporting her family in every way imaginable. Family was everything to her. In Feb. 2003, Doreen was diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. She endured it gracefully and continued serving others as much as she could. She loved to sing, laugh, play, work, and see her family happy. We will be forever grateful for her love and example.
The funeral service will be held on Thurs. Dec. 30th at 11:00 AM at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, 2165 Parkcrest Ave., Kamloops, BC. The service will also be live-streamed.
