1932 – 2016
James A (Jim) Donchi passed away September 18, 2016 following a courageous fight with Huntington’s Disease.
Jim was born on October 8, 1932 in Kamloops. He is survived by his wife and best friend of 51 years, Glenys, his children Ian (Sandy), Rick (Jane), Charlene (Kevin) all of Kamloops and daughter Diana (Al) of Vernon, his grandchildren Jeff, Ryan and Kendall as well as Jim’s brother Bernard.
He was predeceased by his parents Bob and Edith Donchoi, brothers, John, Ron, Bobby and sisters Milly, Laura and Shirley.
Jim was raised on the family farm in Vinsulla where he learned many skills which contributed to his hard work ethic. He and his brothers belonged to the North Thompson 4H where their steers won numerous grand and reserve champions. He and his brothers loved sports especially baseball and hockey.
He worked at Balco Forest Products and then moved to Barnhartvale where he ranched. Jim and his family later owned and operated Hyas Lake Fishing Camp where wonderful memories were created (and many fish caught!) Jim’s favorite job was working as a painter and heavy equipment operator at Mt. Lolo armed forces base, where he was employed for 20 years.
Jim was a true example of the benefits of hard work and enjoying the simple things in life. After retiring he enjoyed his favorite hobbies of fishing and creating special projects in his workshop for all of his family. Saturday nights were a long tradition of spaghetti dinners and Hockey Night in Canada. Many skating parties were had on Jim’s exemplary ice on their back yard pond. It’s safe to say that Jim was happiest with a cold beer in his hand and his family surrounding him.
Dad/Jim was a devoted husband, father, and friend to all that knew him. He will be deeply missed and always loved. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the Huntington’s Society of BC(Huntington Society Canada- huntingtonsociety.ca)
We would like to pay special thanks to the very special, caring staff at the Kamloops Senior Village on 2B. We will be forever grateful for the love and care that you showed Jim.
A Celebration of Life will be held at the Barnhartvale Community Hall, Tuesday September 27, 2016 at 2:00 pm. Please join us to honor the life of this very special person.
