June 13, 1960 – June 29, 2016
Audrey Therese Donahue lived, went to school and married in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan. In 1988, she and her husband, David Wolf, moved to Kamloops.
She was still in high school when she took a job in the field that would become her life-long love. She worked at CKBI-TV on the technical side. Her artistic abilities were recognized and she was asked to fill in for the graphics artist when he went on holidays. In the 1980’s, she worked for Telecable 10 (now Shaw Cable). She filmed, edited and produced programs for them. This allowed her to use and develop those creative skills which became her hallmark in photo- and videography. Amusing puppet shows for children, showcases for local talent, and features of local events…these were all part of her job. She was much valued in the community for this work. In the mid-80’s she returned to CKBI-CIPA TV, where she directed commercials and the news.
It was also in those early Prince Albert years that Audrey developed another skill that became important to her. She, her sis and a friend, would sneak onto the community skating rink at dawn when no one else was around. She became a superb skater and went on to play hockey in the women’s league in Kamloops. She attended many tournaments, was often mentioned as having achieved important scoring plays. She was a canny player both on defense and offence, and so enjoyed her times on the ice.
While in her teens her brothers mentored her in the arts of motorcycle riding and mechanics, a pastime she enjoyed very much.
Audrey delighted us with another skill. She crafted cartoons which featured family members, friends, and pets. Many events are commemorated in these creations that reflect her wit, understanding and affection.
Some of our best times were the camping trips in the Rockies. We would all meet in lovely surroundings, catch up on events, and tell stories. We would laugh. There was so much fun and laughter.
On October 3rd, 1988, Audrey started working at CFJC in Kamloops. She was a switcher and director. She worked on many programs but by far her most important job was expertly switching and directing The CFJC Evening News. She helped at the Blazers games as well, as a camera person.
Audrey was gifted with intelligence, empathy, a great sense of humor that never deserted her even in the hardest times. She was a caring, beautiful and supportive sister, aunt and friend. She loved animals and adored her pets. Over the years the cats she adopted flourished in her care, among them Fuzzy, Peaches, Squirrel, Lucky and Kitcat. Every chance she had, she would explore her surroundings in her Toyota 4×4 (the trucks changed over the years but she always drove a Toyota). Max, Rosie, Tasha, Lobo (a noble German Shepherd), then briefly, Kelly, so tragically lost, and recently Hazel and Roxy, would accompany Audrey on her excursions. She took the most astounding photographs and her videos of those adventures still delight people who watch them on You Tube.
She was pre-deceased by her parents, Lionel and Cecile Donahue, and is survived by her siblings Lilian Donahue, Nelson Donahue, Martin Donahue (Kathy), Sharon Addison (Gord), and cherished niece and nephews: Sheridan, Regan, Burton, Nixon, great-nephew Jaxson, great-niece Adyson. She leaves behind valued friends and colleagues with whom she shared many good times.
A Celebration of Audrey’s Life will be held Saturday, July 9th, at Sahali Fellowship Church, 1565 Summit Drive, Kamloops at 10:00 am. A service will be held in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan at a later date to be announced.
