December 11, 1929 – July 28, 2024
It is with broken hearts that we must announce the peaceful passing of our beautiful Mother, Nana and Great nana, Dolores Quinn.
Mom was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario. It was there that she met and fell in love with Dad. They were married in 1948 and shared 67 years together. During those years, Mom had to pick up her roots and move many times, as Dad was in the Air Force and postings were frequent. Mom always managed to make every new home cozy and warm for all of us. Their final move brought us to Kamloops. It was a difficult one for Mom, because it meant leaving her closest relatives and friends behind. But Mom made the best of it and quickly established new friendships, especially with her co-workers at the Unemployment Insurance Office, where she worked for many years.
When Mom and Dad retired, they travelled throughout B.C. and loved playing hosts and tour guides to old friends and relatives visiting from Ontario. Mom was the best hostess and loved entertaining.
Mother had the most beautiful hands. They were always busy, either sewing, knitting, quilting or creating her stunning paper-tole pictures. And Mom loved her gardens. She had such a green thumb.
But Mother’s greatest joy was her family. She loved us with an honest and generous heart. When grandchildren and great grandchildren came along, she was so happy. She absolutely loved “little ones.” Once they became teenagers, she found it more difficult to keep up with them and communicate with them. But, she found little ways to connect and never ever forgot a birthday, anniversary or special event. Christmas was the best, because she would decorate her whole house, especially for the children, delighting in their pleasure.
There will be such an emptiness without our special “Angel”, but we will all have wonderful memories Mom gave us, and we will hold them dear to our hearts.
Mother was predeceased by her parents Irwin and Ivy Marks, our devoted father Edward “Ted” Quinn, her brother Vaughn Marks and her beloved son Terry Quinn.
Left to cherish her beautiful memory are her daughter Shaun Perry, son Dennis Quinn (Lynne), granddaughters Michelle Rothery, Shelagh Uptigrove (Brian), grandsons Daniel Rothery (Mindy) and Mathew Quinn (Erin). Also remembering Mom are her great grandchildren Julian, Jacob, McKenzie, Aidan, Mya, Seamus and Sawyer.
I would like to give special thanks to all of the staff at Overlander Residential Care for the respect and gentleness they showed our mother. They were amazing and always started and ended her days with affection and smiles.
If roses grow in Heaven, Lord, please pick a bunch for me.
Place them in my Mother’s arms and tell her they’re from me.
Tell her I love her and miss her, and when she turns to smile,
Place a kiss upon her cheek, and hold her for awhile.
Because remembering her is easy, I do it every day,
But there’s an ache within my heart that will never go away.
Love you forever and always.
You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Quinn family.
