June 24, 1940 – January 9, 2026
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Diane White (nee Renfrew) on January 9, 2026.
Born on June 24, 1940, in Victoria, B.C., Diane moved to Kamloops in 1956 and met Carman White, who she was married to for 60 years. Diane is survived by her children Sharlene Sharpe (Craig) and Gordon White, grandchildren Heather Sharpe and Kira Sharpe, brother Robert Renfrew, two great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews, and her brother in-law Bryan White and sister in-law Doreen Johnson.
Diane and Carman were active in Kamloops’s business community and charitable sector, owning and operating several retail stores including one of western Canada’s first natural food stores, Be Prepared Centre, in the 1970s and 1980s and a women’s clothing store, Classic Fashions, in the 1990s–2000s.
In her early retirement years, Diane was a volunteer manager of the RIH Thrift Store, where she was able to utilize her years of retail experience to increase store revenues and benefit the hospital foundation. She was also active for many years after moving to Kamloops with the Save the Children Fund charity, which raised donations for youth in developing nations primarily in Africa and Asia.
An avid tennis player, Diane enjoyed many happy years on the courts with her friends. She also enjoyed camping and exploring B.C. with Carman as they visited many different regions of B.C. with their camper and canoe.
International travel was also pursued, as Diane and Carman traveled frequently to Hawaii and Mexico, and enjoyed holidays in the Caribbean, Europe, and many parts of Canada.
The Shuswap Lake region was also a coveted place for Diane and family, as she and Carman enjoyed the beauty and serenity of this area at a cabin they built on Little Shuswap Lake, plus the White family cabin in Sorrento.
Diane was an avid sewer, quilter, and crocheter, as every home she had featured a dedicated sewing room, and her copious production is found in the homes of many of her family and friends. Diane’s seemingly unlimited love and compassion brought her many friends and the devotion of family. She will be greatly missed.
Donations in her memory can be made to the RIH Foundation.
