Davis, Barbara Margaret Marjory

Born July 9, 1935 in Montreal, Quebec and died peacefully on June 4, 2016 after a sudden illness. Barb is survived by her brother Geoff (Kim) and sister Pamela (Dennis) Peacock, nephews Gary (Pam) and Ian (Megan), nieces Melinda (Tom) Williamson and Andrea, and numerous grandnieces and nephews, and one newly arrived great-grandniece. She was predeceased by her parents, Eric and Kathleen, her brother Rick and her nephew Jim (Kathryn).
As a child, Barb lived in Montreal, Sarnia, Edmonton, Winnipeg, and Vancouver with her family, but settled in Kamloops in 1953. She started working at the law firm now known as Fulton & Co. in 1954, first as a stenographer, and later as the corporate records manager, until her retirement 41 years later. She loved her work and her work colleagues and took tremendous pride in running a tight ship.
In her younger years Barb enjoyed annual vacations in Hawaii with her parents and Pamela, sipping margaritas and soaking up the sun. Her nieces and nephews all have unforgettable memories of trips with Barb to the Enchanted Forest and for the girls, to McLeod, the Davis family ancestral home, and the Calgary Stampede.
Barb was a lifelong Canucks, Lions and Blazers fan. She belonged to PEO and Beta Sigma Phi and was an avid bridge player. Through these pursuits she made many dear friends.
Physically limited by polio as a child and more so as she aged, Barb lived her life fully, though vicariously, through her nieces and nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews. Her home was filled with cards, photos, mementos and letters from her family and those close to her and it was clear that she cherished these memories.
Barb loved it when Pamela came up from the coast for visits and the two shopped and cavorted. Pamela is at least partially responsible for Barb’s massive wardrobe and shoe collection (and vice versa). Barb could regularly be found with Geoff cruising Aberdeen Mall and having a coffee at Blenz. Having Geoff “drive” her wheelchair was always hair-raising for Barb, and shoppers were no doubt amused by their banter and her frequent admonishments for how Geoff manhandled her wheelchair and her. She loved her siblings, despite her grumblings, and they loved her and did much to make her life as comfortable and fulfilling as possible.
Barb will be remembered for her sharp wit and mind, her generosity and her indomitable spirit. She will be missed.
Thank you to Barb’s physician, Dr. Jeevyn Chahal, for her care over these last difficult years.
In lieu of flowers, donations to Royal Inland Hospital Foundation (http://rihfoundation.ca/ways-to-give/memorials), where Barb received such excellent care over the years, would be greatly appreciated by Barb and her family
There will be no service, but we ask that all of you that knew Barb take a moment on July 9th, 2016, her birthday, to reflect on your memories of her and, perhaps, raise a glass of sherry (her favourite) in her honour.
