It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Don Davidson on Friday, October 21st surrounded by friends and family at the age of 63.
A true rags to riches story, Don was raised as a child laborer at a crowded foster home until he was rescued at age 11 and taken to The Everdale Place, Canada’s first free school in Hillsburgh, Ontario. There he flourished and became known as a creative, honest, dedicated businessman. These traits became the hallmark of Don’s entire career.
Don thrived in the forestry industry, first as a logging contractor, working all over Canada, then transitioning into heavy equipment sales. His colleagues, employees and managers would remark at Don’s capacity to work long, hard hours cheerfully and always with his trademark ear-to-ear smile.
His love and knowledge of the outdoors led Don to be an accomplished fly fisherman and his passion for it inspired many to take up the sport themselves. Don was even known to purchase a first fly rod for those who expressed interest in ‘wetting a line.’
As recent health challenges began to mount, Don faced many painful operations, procedures and chemotherapy sessions with strength, positivity and dignity. Don’s healthcare providers were surprised and pleased by his strength and good humour. They noted that it prolonged his life long past their expectations.
Don is survived by his wife of 40 years, Linda, his sons Matt and Steve (wife Chelsey) and his three grandchildren – Kylee-Mae, Damien and Ryker.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at The Kamloops United Church on Tuesday, November 1st at 1:00pm.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers donations be made to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice.
