September 27, 1957 – September 14, 2024   

With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of David McLaren Easton. David passed away peacefully on September 14, 2024, at home, surrounded by his family after a brave and quiet battle with cancer. 

Born in Duncan and raised in Aldergrove and Cherry Creek, David settled in Kamloops in 1965, where he spent his childhood exploring Paul Lake and Duffy Lake, fishing, camping, and enjoying the outdoors. These passions continued throughout his life, from family camping trips to skiing at Sun Peaks, where he shared his love for adventure with those closest to him. 

David had a deep love for learning. He earned a degree in History and a Master’s in Liberal Studies alongside his sister, Margaret, and his passion for researching and writing essays stayed with him throughout his life. Whether delving into historical events or immersing himself in great works of literature, David enjoyed the process of discovery and thoughtful reflection. He frequently shared stories with his family, particularly the works of Peter Pan and C.S. Lewis, and his wisdom was matched by his sense of humor and warm smile. He also cherished engaging in thoughtful conversations, often drawing from his love of history and literature to enrich discussions with friends and family. 

Beyond books and academia, David loved to travel. He found joy in the bustling streets of London, the rainy charm of Vancouver, and the sunny shores of Hawaii, creating lasting memories with his family in every corner of the world he visited. He also treasured summer trips to Playland and camping adventures with his kids, adding to his legacy of cherished family moments. 

As a proud father and grandfather, David’s love was felt in the little moments. Whether performing magic tricks for his granddaughters, Elianna and Alessia, or taking them on bike rides in his custom “grandpapa mobile,” he filled their lives with joy and wonder. His passion for cycling was lifelong. He mountain biked at Sun Peaks and enjoyed cycling with his brothers and his K9 buddy, Wilbur, on the airport dike. He always made sure his family and friends had a bike to ride, often building and repairing them himself. David also had a special love for dogs, finding companionship and joy in their playful spirits. 

David’s family meant everything to him. He was a devoted husband to his loving wife, Diane, and a proud father to his children, Jamelia (Ross), Danie (Jayne), and Kathryn (Avery), as well as his grandchildren, Elianna and Alessia. He also leaves behind his siblings Margaret (Greig), John, Kathryn, Henry (Sandra), and Oliver (Heather), as well as his close siblings-in-law Brenda (Don) and Mary Ann (Don), and numerous nieces and nephews. 

David McLaren Easton’s legacy is one of quiet strength, enduring love, and an insatiable curiosity for life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, but his memory will live on in the stories he shared, the laughter he brought, and the wisdom he passed down to those lucky enough to be part of his life. 

The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hollman and the dedicated team of palliative care nurses who supported David in his wish to remain at home during his final days. Your compassion and care made an immense difference in his journey, and we are forever grateful. 

A celebration of David’s life will be held at the Chapel of Schoening Funeral Service on Sunday, September 29, at 2:00 p.m.
