February 4, 1945 – October 23, 2020

Mrs. Darlene Ann Jury (nee Smith) passed away on October 23, 2020 at the age of seventy-five in Merritt, B.C.

Dar was predeceased by her husband Robert (Bob) Jury, daughter Deana Hill, and brother Alick Smith. She is survived by her children Todd Jury (Angel), Leah Jury, and Kim Jury (Everett). She is also survived by her grandchildren Hayden (Katie) and Travis Jury (Tiara), Liberty and Haven Jensen; Brittney Nikkel, Amy and Ashley Jury; Tristen (Jelena), Trey, and Riley Hill; and Dalton Jury (Andy), Brody and Jake Jury-Hoisington. She is also survived by one great grandchild, Alivia Jury. She will be lovingly remembered and missed by many relatives and friends.

Dar was born in Edmonton, Alberta to Alick and Margaret Smith, along with two brothers Jack Smith (Joan) and Alick Smith (Sharon). Dar met Bob in Victoria at 16, when she was at public skating and he was the handsome Zamboni driver. They married in 1965 and raised 4 very loved kids, with Dar working for the provincial government and helping to run the family business B & D Lift Truck.

Dar and Bob were always full of fun, especially looking forward to their trips to Vegas and Reno and spending untold hours with their adored grandchildren. She remained in Victoria until Bob passed in 2015, after which she moved to Merritt, B.C. in 2018.

Dar will be remembered always as a spitfire, talkative, funny, and above all full of life. She loved visiting with her people and was a diehard casino enthusiast. Dar was a hard worker, she was a prolific knitter and she loved being outside in her garden, spending hours caring for her home in Cobble Hill as well as at her “little house” in Merritt. She loved cooking family dinners, and was famous for her sausage rolls and Yorkshire pudding.

Her greatest joy was her grandchildren, and she was so delighted to have a little great-granddaughter. Nana was endlessly proud of all her grandchildren and loved watching their lives unfold. Dar and her stories and laughter will be so missed.

Nana’s family would like to thank Dr. Fenrich, Dr. Goetz, Dr. Lyttle, Dr. Lane, Nicola Valley Home Care, and the Kelowna Cancer Clinic for their respectful, kind, and compassionate care. We would also like to thank the many friends and family who supported Dar and her family.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Agency.
