Dan, Nettie
Posted Sep 7, 2017 | 8:24 PM
Nettie Dan was born on the Bonaparte Indian Reserve. She spent most of her younger years there with her Grandparents Julie and Jim Etienne. After attending Kamloops Indian Residential School and a brief stay back in Bonaparte she returned to Kamloops Indian Reserve to live with her mother Emma Gabriel.
In her late teen years she worked alongside her Mother as a farm labourer and housekeeper. When eighteen she met her life partner, Malcolm (Sonny) Dan. They made Westsyde their home and raised their four children. Through all the years of raising their children and grandchildren the Westsyde farm held many happy memories. Mom lost Sonny in May of 1974. After a time staying alone she moved into Kamloops to live with her daughter. Finding time on her hands Mom took a Home Care Course at Cariboo College. With new found confidence and new friends she worked all around Kamloops area, till her retirement at 65.
Through the retirement years Mom kept active in walking clubs and Yoga classes. A love of reading kept her mind active and informed. The time spent with her many varied friends brought much joy to her long life.
We are so very thankful to have had you in our lives for as long as we did. Your beautiful smile, your gentle way of advising, and how you truly listened to whoever bent your ear. The way you threw in one of your off the cuff, quips of humour, will always be remembered as “Granny’s Trademark Comebacks”. You always stood up to the challenge of life’s many turns with quiet grace. You gave much strength to our family tree!
May your light shine through us all, Love always, Sisters, Laura and Wilma (Heinz) daughters, Joan (predeceased) Lorna, Anne and son Ron. Grandchildren Cheryl, Phillip, Brandi, Jenne, Trevor (Melody) Ryan (Elaine), Candice. Great grandchildren Jamie, Paris, Kyle and Phoenix and many nieces and nephews.
