1924 – 2016
Ruby Amy Crossley, born in Hillsdown, AB, April 13, 1924, went home Wednesday, August 31, 2016, to join her Heavenly Father and her husband of 71 years, Ernest Crossley.
She leaves behind her son, Ernest (Ruth), and daughters Marjorie and Cynthia (Peter), as well as grandchildren Sherri-Lynn (Scott), Lorne (Yvette), Robert (Shelley), Michael, Jason (Eunice), Pamela (Greg), Darron, Troy, as well as 17 great grandchildren and 4 great, great grandchildren – each bringing her pleasure in their own special way.
Ruby’s growing up years were spent on the family farm having been born in a little 1 room log house, attending the local schools, then moving to Red Deer for her grade 10 school year. At the age of 16 she met and dated Ernie. In May 1941 they began their life together.
While enjoying work outside of the home with short-term positions in a bakery and dry-cleaners, Ruby was, for the most part a stay-at-home wife and mother. Her family and faith were important facets of her life where many life-long friendships were formed. She also had many wonderful opportunities to venture out with her sister, Violet, too travel the world – sharing stories and pictures with her family upon her return.
As Mom and Dad moved into their senior years they experienced declining health necessitating their move from their home to living together in assisted living. Following Dad’s passing in 2012, Mom’s declining health eventually took her to residential care at Ridgeview Lodge.
Our family would like to express special thanks to the awesome staff at Ridgeview Lodge for the kind and loving care they have given to Mom for the past 2 years and to those special friends and family who have consistently given her many moments of laughter and happiness.
If relatives or friends so desire, memorial donations would be appreciated in the memory of Ruby to the Gideon Bible Society, PO Box 3619 Stn Main, Guelph, ON, N1H 9Z9.
At Mom’s request, a private family graveside service will be held, giving the family the opportunity to say good-bye.
MISS ME, BUT LET ME GO
“When I come to the end of the road
And the sun has set for me,
I want no rites in a gloom-filled room;
Why cry for a soul set free?
Miss me a little, but not for long,
And not with your head bowed low,
Remember the love we once shared,
Miss me, but let me go.
For this is a journey we must all take
And each must go alone,
It is all part of the Master’s plan,
A step on the road to home.
And when you are lonely and sick at heart,
Go to friends we know
And bury your sorrow in doing good deeds
Miss me – but let me go.”
