Colin was an amazing guy. Loving, generous, hardworking, and full of fun; he made friends easily and was respected by co-workers. A talented mechanic, he was working his dream job as an Apprentice Heavy Equipment Technician for Finning in Fort McMurray when he was diagnosed. Courage only begins to describe what he brought against PSC and Cancer.
Born in Kamloops, he moved to Fort St. John at an early age, and lived the rest of his 29 years in Calgary – a city he loved. Colin attended Ecole Central Elementary, Banff Trail School, Branton School, and William Aberhart High School. He achieved his Automotive Service Technician Red Seal Certification through the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT).
Colin was fearless. “Go for it” describes his attitude, from skateboarding, motocross, tattoos, hair styles, clothes, hijinks, and misadventures. Lead singer for the short-lived Aquanauts (one memorable gig) and founding member of the Drift Wizards. He travelled extensively: Western and Atlantic Canada, Quebec and Ontario, the US Eastern Seaboard and Southwest, Florida, Mexico, Japan, France, Italy, Dubai, and Great Britain. He owned a great many automobiles and motorcycles, but had a soft spot for Japanese Domestic Market cars. He loved to work on his tuner, and was active in the Southern Alberta drifting community. Always on the lookout for a skid plate far from prying eyes.
Colin leaves behind his loving wife, Cherry Hooper. Parents, Peter and Brenda Reid (nee MacKeigan) of Kamloops. In-laws, Tracey and Tana Hooper of Airdrie. Numerous Aunts and Uncles and many cousins, countless friends, and colleagues. Colin was loved and will be missed by all. Portions of Colins ashes will be scattered by family and friends in special places of remembrance.
Special thanks to Dr. Sasha Lupichuk and Colins whole Team at the Tom Baker Cancer Centre, and the staff at the Southwood Care Centre. Colin got excellent care, and they did everything they could to make him better. Thank you, Mandy, for going with him to appointments, and Mandy and Barret for standing up for Colin and Cherry at their Wedding on April 8, 2023. Also, thanks to Finning Canada for doing right by him. He was our sunshine.
