July 22, 1954 – August 6, 2025 

With heavy hearts and fond memories, we announce the passing of Christine Ann Hawkings on the evening of August 6, 2025, in Kamloops, B.C., at the age of 71. 

Born on July 22, 1954, in Bentley, Alberta, Christine grew up surrounded by family, small-town warmth, and the kind of open prairie skies she would always carry in her heart. In the spring of 1977, she moved to British Columbia, where she built a life full of love, laughter, and community. 

Christine met Robert, the love of her life, when she was just 15. For her 16th birthday, he gave her a bottle of beer — she drank half of it and was drunk, a story that became a family classic. They were married in October of 1973 and shared over five decades of marriage filled with devotion, partnership, and plenty of laughter. Robert fondly called her Funnyface — a nickname just between the two of them. 

Christine was the proud mom of Tom (Laina), Clinton (Yvonne), and Susan (Peter), and the treasured grandmother of Tyler, Cameron, Ethan, and Riley. She will be deeply missed by her sister Janie and brothers Bruce and John, as well as countless friends and extended family. She is predeceased by her parents, Shiela and James, and her siblings Mark and Ruth. 

Christine’s life was rooted in caring for others — whether through her years running a small café or through the countless meals, conversations, and moments she gave to her family. Her home was always open: there was always a meal to eat, a pot of coffee ready, and a fridge that was fully stocked. And if something in that fridge happened to go bad, the family would simply call it a “science experiment” and laugh about it. She had a gift for making people feel at home. Whether they were lifelong friends or strangers, she struck up a conversation within the grocery store. 

She loved reading, cooking, crafts, cross-stitching, sewing, and collecting angels. She had a knack for lingering over a cup of coffee with friends, chatting for hours, and telling it exactly how it was — whether you wanted to hear it or not. Her fun-loving spirit, helpful nature, and friendly warmth touched everyone who knew her. 

Christine’s greatest joy was her family. She believed her role was to make sure her children could try anything they dreamed of, and she gave them that gift through her constant support and unconditional love.
