July 1, 1939 — July 13, 2026

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Carole Elizabeth Keyworth, who passed away peacefully on July 13, 2026, at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, British Columbia, at the age of 87.

Born on July 1, 1939, in Tumut, New South Wales, Australia, Carole lived a life defined by kindness, curiosity, compassion, and an unwavering devotion to her family. Above all else, she was a loving wife, devoted mother, and caring grandmother whose greatest joy was her family. Carole is lovingly remembered by her husband, Bryce; her sons, Dean and David; and her beloved grandchildren, Sydney, Liam, Brycen, and Alexandra.

An educator throughout her career, Carole began as an elementary school teacher before finding her true calling teaching English as a Second Language to newcomers to Canada. She took immense pride in helping immigrants not only learn English but also build confidence and feel at home in Canada. She treasured getting to know people from around the world and learning about their cultures and experiences. She often hosted parties for her students and encouraged them to share some of the culture of their home country, whether that be through food, music, or apparel. Her gift for teaching extended past technical expertise, she genuinely cared for each and every one of her students, providing them with endless patience, encouragement and compassion. In 1999, she received the Teaching Excellence Award from the University College of the Cariboo, an honour based on nominations and feedback from both students and colleagues.

Carole’s own love of learning was matched by her passion for travel. She explored much of the world, with Southeast Asia holding a special place in her heart through many memorable visits. Whether abroad or at home, she had a remarkable gift for connecting with people. Her warm smile, genuine curiosity, and welcoming nature meant that no one remained a stranger for long. Even in the New York City subway, a place where people famously keep to themselves, she had a knack for striking up conversations and having meaningful interactions, leaving people smiling. She reminded us that kindness and genuine curiosity could turn even the most ordinary moments into something memorable.

Proud of her Australian roots, Carole carried her heritage with her wherever she went. She embraced life with warmth, openness, and an adventurous spirit, leaving a lasting impression on everyone fortunate enough to know her. Carole’s legacy lives on in the love she gave her family, the countless students whose lives she touched, and the friendships she formed across continents and cultures. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered for her generosity, grace, and ability to make everyone feel welcome.

Celebrations of Carole’s life will be held in Kamloops and in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland. Details will be shared with family and friends at a later date.
