August 17, 1944 – November 13, 2016
Vince Canonico, 72, passed away on November 13, 2016 in Kamloops, BC surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his wife, Tina, his children Gina (Brian), Moss (Michelle), Stefanie (Eugenio), grandchildren Joel, Maia, Simona and Ezio. Vince was dearly loved by his siblings Pina, Maria, Franco, Iole, Sergio and Silvana along with their families. “Zio” will be missed by his many nieces and nephews in both Italy and Ottawa, Ontario. He is also survived by his in-laws, nieces, nephews and a host of long time friends in Kamloops. He was predeceased by his parents, Silvio and Luigina.
Vince was born August 17, 1944, in Lago, Cosenza, Italy. There he developed a love of the outdoors which included hunting, fishing and gardening. He learned the art of making salami and wine which he continued to perfect throughout the course of his life. Vince also spent some of his earlier years working in Germany. In 1975, with the help of his brother, Sergio, he brought his family to Ottawa, Ontario where they spent five wonderful years there reconnecting with many close family and friends. In May 1980, he moved his family to Kamloops. He worked for CN Rail for many years and retired as a welder. In retirement, Vince really got to enjoy his hobbies again which included the outdoors. His “green thumb” was the envy of many as seen in his garden, lawn and orchard. He was a master pruner of trees and many friends benefited from his skill. He enjoyed many bocce games at home and as a long time member at the Colombo Lodge. Vince was an avid walker for many years and could be seen walking every morning at McArthur Island Park, rain or shine. Some of Vince’s cherished memories include mushroom picking, cod fishing at night, overnight hunting trips and completing his prized cantina and cold room. He was a man of many talents and for this he will be truly missed by all his family and friends.
Time spent with all his very close friends and acquaintances especially over these last few years will not be forgotten by Vince or his family. He would rearrange his schedule and drop everything to spend time with everyone who wanted to visit. You all brought a big smile to his face and your visits stayed with him long after you had gone home.
The family would like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. Pretorius, Dr. Montgomery, and all the amazing, caring nurses and respiratory therapists on 4N at R.I.H.
As per Vince’s request, a private family service was held on November 18th.
Should friends desire, in lieu of flowers, a donation may be made for a memorial bench in Vince’s name at any Royal Bank of Canada Branch, (account number 03520-003-504818-6).
