November 15, 1948 – February 18, 2025
With sadness in our hearts, we announce the passing of Camillo Lazzinnaro on February 18, 2025, surrounded by his family in Kamloops, B.C., Canada.
Camillo Mario Lazzinnaro was born on November 15, 1948, in Torano Castello in the province of Cosenza, Italy. He was the first son born to Adamo & Delina Lazzinnaro, he grew up surrounded by his five siblings, Maria, Remo, Adriana, Marcello and Irene.
As a young boy Camillo loved school, and excelled at it, but stopped at an early age to help on the family farm. He left Italy to find work in Germany in 1966 at the age of 18, where he stayed for two years before returning home briefly to say goodbye to his family as he had made a life changing decision to move to Canada in 1968.
Camillo arrived in Kamloops, B.C. and immediately took a liking to the area. He stayed with his Zio Pietro and Zia Laura who helped him adapt to life in a new country. His brother Remo and many friends would later join him, creating a deep-rooted community in Kamloops.
In 1971 after driving his cousin Rosemary from Kamloops back to her home in Winnipeg, he met his future wife Olga (né Perrelli). Before returning home to Kamloops he made sure to tell Olga’s family that he would love to visit again to see her.
Camillo and Olga were married in 1973 in Winnipeg, Manitoba and had their first child Adela in 1975. He convinced Olga to move to Kamloops in 1977 and had two more children Adamo(1978) and Roberto(1979).
Camillo worked most of his early life at Afton Mine in Kamloops as a supervisor. When Afton closed operations in the mid 90’s Camillo continued to work at various mines across British Columbia. Tired of the constant travel and being away from his family he then worked primarily in landscaping before retiring.
Above everything was Camillo’s love of his family and friends; gathering to share a meal, tell stories, laugh, drink his coveted homemade wine, listen and dance to his favorite singer Celentano, and simply enjoy the company. He was known to captivate the whole table with his storytelling on these gatherings. A jack of all trades, Camillo could and did construct anything he put his mind to, evidenced by his backyard. He followed politics closely and loved reading. His most famous talent was as a gardener, a hobby that brought him immense happiness and he loved nothing more than sharing the abundance from his garden with his friends and family. La famiglia è tutto.
Camillo is predeceased by his father Adamo(1991), his mother Delina(2013), his brother Remo (2017). As well as his beloved uncle Zio Pietro(2024), and his life long friends Pino(2017), Ercolino(2021), and Franco(2023).
Camillo is survived by his loving wife Olga, his daughter Adela(Scott), son Adamo(Silken)-grandkids Ary & Flora, and son Roberto(Airesse)-granddaughter Zinnia. His sisters Maria, Adriana, Irene(Antonio), brother Marcello. His sister in-laws Franca, Giuseppina (Joe), Daniela(Don †2018), and brother in-law Biagio(Dawn), and many loved nephews and nieces in Canada and Italy. Our love for you is endless and we will always keep you in our hearts.
Our family would like to thank the wonderful volunteers and staff at the Marjorie Willoughby Hospice for the care provided to our dad at the end of his life. As well as Franca, Mena and the kind and generous neighbours that cared for and helped our family in a time of need.
