It is with great sadness that the family of Joey Burton announce his sudden passing on Wednesday March 15th in Fort Worth, Texas. Joey, a 26 year old son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend leaves behind his mother Indra, his father Bobby, his brother Jake, his sisters Melissa and Shanna as well as many relatives and family friends in British Columbia, Alberta and Cape Breton Island.
Joey was raised in Kamloops, attended Lloyd George Elementary School and South Kamloops Secondary School, and together with his family, was actively involved from a young age in the Overlander Ski Club at Stake Lake. After highschool, Joey moved to Canmore, Alberta to attend the Alberta World Cup Academy Training Centre for cross country ski racing at the international level.
Throughout his youth and young adult years, Joey was most happy when he was on a mountain, river or lake. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hiking, backcountry skiing, fly-fishing, mountain biking and exploring with both family and friends.
Joey retired from ski racing in 2012 and began pursuing a career in aviation. He attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology(SAIT) where he trained in the Aircraft Maintenance Engineers Technology program. Since completing this program at SAIT, Joey has worked for a BC based helicopter company. He was in Fort Worth Texas participating in a training program when he died.
Joey’s family is making arrangements for Joey to be returned to Kamloops and will be advising family and friends within his many communities of how his life will be celebrated.
