February 27th, 1925 – November 8th, 2018
It is with great sorrow that we announce the passing of our mom Hilda in the early morning hours of November 8th at the age of 93. Predeceased by her husband Edward on August 30, 1997.
She was born in Birmingham, England, one of three children. It was here that she met our dad Edward Brown during the War, marrying on August 25, 1945. After the war she traveled by steamship to Halifax Harbour, settling in Vancouver, BC where they raised their five children.
Mom was an avid gardener enjoying her many flower beds and greenhouse while living in Vancouver. She also loved hiking, camping and fishing. Our family has many fond memories of our trips to Nicola Lake. When Mom and Dad retired to Vernon they enjoyed many a day hiking at Kalamalka Lake Park. Mom was also very artistic, spending time oil painting and drawing. She went on to do volunteer work for Vernon Jubilee Hospital helping with fund raising with knitting and sewing for their craft sales. She later moved to Kamloops residing at Cottonwood Manor. She volunteered her time there for the North Shore Community Centre donating many hand-made items for their functions.
She is fondly remembered by her children Margaret (William); Raymond (Susan); Ronald (Donna); Kathleen (Esko); Joanne; 11 grandchildren and many great-grandchildren.
The family would like to express their deepest gratitude to all the doctors, nurses and support staff of Royal Inland Hospital (Emergency Room, 7 North, 5 North) and Ponderosa Lodge for their kindness, caring and support.
“Mom, you live on forever in our hearts”
At Moms request, there will be no service.
Our family will gather to celebrate her life at a later date.
In lieu of flowers please consider a donation to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
