August 28, 1946 – April 8, 2024
Brian Charles Puida Mitchell, born August 28, 1946, died on April 8, 2024, at 77 years old, surrounded by his family in Kamloops, B.C. He is survived by his wife Jocelyne, to whom he was married for 55 years, his son Liam (Anna), his daughter Aidan (Barrett), and three grandchildren, Maeve, Ethan, and Rowan. He was predeceased by his father Charles, his mother Allena, and his brother Kevin.
Brian was born and raised in Halifax, but left Nova Scotia in 1970 for Vancouver to study comparative theology. Far more than an academic pursuit, his faith would orient him for the rest of his life. He moved to Kamloops in 1975 to become the manager of the Cariboo College (TRU) bookstore where he worked for more than 30 years. In addition to the many relationships that he cultivated at TRU, he fostered lasting friendships through the Kamloops Film Society, Development and Peace, and the Contemplative Society.
He loved books, walking, and wind, but he loved people most of all. He had a boundless faith in human beings and the human spirit. He will be deeply missed.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations in Brian’s memory can be made to the UN Refugee Agency (https://shorturl.at/TXY19).
“Many thanks for everything. Praise, praise for it all.”
