April 18, 1924 – August 18, 2017
Clara was born to Thomas and Annie Hrabi in the Grove Park farming area near Esterhazy, Saskatchewan. Clara spent her early years on her parent’s farm until November 3, 1943, when she was united in marriage to George Andrew Benna at the Roman Catholic Church in Esterhazy.
George and Clara resided at their farm in the beautiful Qu’Appelle Valley until 1954 when they moved to British Columbia for the job opportunities it provided. Finally settling in Cache Creek where they built their family home.
Clara’s days were filled with bringing up her children, gardening and sewing; she always enjoyed the simple things in life. She also had a unique talent for carpentry. In later years, she could be found sipping her coffee and enjoying the sun through her front window while watching the passersby and the seasonal changes. She had an avid memory for details of local history and a great interest in biographies. She also had a great belief in preventative medicine and natural remedies.
Clara was predeceased by her parents, beloved husband George, her sisters Mary Tayfel and Annie Vass, her brother Albert Hrabi and grandson Michael Litram as well as brothers in law Steve Tayfel and Nick Vass.
Clara leaves to mourn, her children: Sharon (Marven) Kelland, Janie Benna, Donna (Ray) Litram, Gary (Alaen) Benna and Angela (David) Holloway; grandchildren Jeffery (Kim), Susan (Darryl), Stephen (Lani), Mitchell and Chelsey (Jeff); great granddaughters Gwen and Evelyn. She is also remembered by her sister in law Melina Benna, brothers in law Victor Bartok and Lyle Keeler and many nieces and nephews.
Clara was a wonderfully caring wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother who inspired her family. She will be forever missed and her memory treasured.
The Reverend Father Vernantius Ononiwu will celebrate the Funeral Mass on Saturday, August 26, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at the St. Gerard’s Catholic Church, Ashcroft. Clara will be laid to rest beside her husband in the Ashcroft Cemetery.
