June 10, 1954 – July 12, 2025
Ben was born in Vancouver on June 10, 1954. He is predeceased by his father Ralph in 2010, and brother-in-law Tom in 2017. He is survived by his mother Sheila, sisters Karen and Sandra, brother Douglas, nephews James and Todd plus many cousins.
In his youth he was a pitcher, liked to swim and read. In those days our cousins lived close by; we were one big happy family. We celebrated birthdays, had picnics at the beach, summertime barbecues, went to the movies, and played games. He loved to learn and excelled in school. He had a creative side; his ink drawings were full of movement. He became a ranked chess player, took up go, and was in his first year of physics at UBC when his life was impacted by illness.
Ben moved to Kamloops around 1990 to be close to his family. He was interested in what we were doing and was happy for us. He found his independence and continued to engage in the things he loved. He would pass on his knowledge of chess, mathematics, or anything scientific to anyone who asked. In his later years, he continued his long walks, reading, good conversation, coffee shop scene, and laughter.
In the last few years of his life, Ben told me his symptoms subsided greatly, and he had peace of mind. We take comfort in knowing this before his rapid physical decline.
We will remember him for his courage, intelligence, and humour.
Ben is free now, at peace in heaven with everlasting love.
