May 14, 1939 – March 22, 2024
Barry passed away peacefully on March 22, 2024, surrounded by love, at the age of 84.
Born in the village of Clipston, England, Barry moved to Canada at age 18 joining his aunt, uncle, granny, and grandad to live in Kitimat, British Columbia. Throughout his life, Barry performed several jobs including working as a laborer at an aluminum smelter, a chokerman in the forestry industry, and a scrape driver at the Revelstoke dam.
In 1975, Barry met the love of his life, Sonja, at a skydiving drop zone in Kamloops. Soon after, Barry surprised Sonja with a proposal in Inuvik. The two were married in 1979 and became each other’s forever “sweetie pie” and “hunny bun”.
One of Barry’s greatest joys was flying all over North America with the love of his life, Sonja, for 27 years with Sonja as chief pilot and Barry as co-pilot, responsible for the navigation. In his later years following Sonja’s passing in 2009, Barry could be found taking classes for enjoyment at TRU, spending time outdoors, traveling, and taking pleasure in sharing time with friends and family.
Barry was a naturally gifted navigator, a kind and generous soul, and a friend to all.
