Barry had a life filled with adventure. Born in Flin Flon Manitoba, he spent his adolescent years in Brandon and rural Ft. Churchill MB, eventually moving to British Columbia in the 1970’s. He played guitar in bands both in MB and in Kamloops. He was an avid skier for many years of his life, also learning to snowboard with his daughter.
He spent many months in the back country of the Yukon through the 80’s with his closest friends; flown into the middle of nowhere by float plane with a Big Red ATV strapped to the bottom. They built a cabin and prospected for placer gold on creeks in the area of Tin Cup Lake. These journeys marked the start of his lifelong passion of searching for gold and helped to shape the man we all loved and will forever miss.
His journey into the remainder of his life began in the late 80’s when he met Laura Greger, and eventually became the father to Erica Milman. Barry’s life was filled of hard work, dedication, and a desire to learn as much about the world around him as he possibly could. He shared his love and knowledge of gold mining history with all, and was always there to lend a hand to anyone needing help with computers. He loved to garden and this year left behind a beautiful vegetable garden that continues to feed his friends and family well after his passing.
Barry loved to share his knowledge and opinions, his favorite phrase being:
‘Life is what happens when you are busy making plans’
On August 12th, 2021, Barry peacefully passed away after a long battle with Cancer. He was predeceased by his mother Margorie (Krupa) Pidskalny and father Walter Pidskalny.
He leaves behind his wife Laura Greger, daughter Erica Milman, son-in-law Tim, sisters Connie Mang & Donna Aeichele, brother-in-law Butch, plus many nieces and nephews. He will also be missed by his extended family and many friends, as well as his cherished prospecting and ice fishing buddies.
Our heartfelt thanks and respect to the staff at Marjorie Willoughby Hospice, who provided a welcoming environment for family and friends to spend time with Barry. The nurses and Dr. Sze ensured that Barry had expert loving care, and a tranquil place to spend the last chapter of his life.
