May 31, 2025
It is with deep sadness that we announce Barry’s passing on May 31, 2025, at the Margaret Willoughby Snowden Hospice in Kamloops, B.C.
Barry was a much-loved husband, father and grandfather. He bravely fought the return of cancer in 2016 and amazed doctors when he walked out of the North Vancouver hospice two months after arriving, having regained all his lost weight and mobility. So was his will to fight and stay with his family. He was stoic and never complained as he pressed on with whatever was required of him. This quiet determination gave him another year and a half but, sadly, it was a battle he could not win.
Barry was born in the UK and came to Canada as a young man where he met his wife, Janet. He was a skilled carpenter and renovated two homes before concentrating on the Loon Lake cabin, a property he upgraded over 30 years from a shack to a two-story home. It was his happy place and a retreat much loved by the entire family.
He was an avid outdoorsman and loved heading out into the back country where he would enjoy a quiet day fly fishing or, in the fall, a day searching for grouse or larger game, although the main objective was always just being out there.
Barry is survived by his wife of 47 years, Janet, his two daughters, Sarah (Andrew), Kate (Phil) and his four grandchildren, Leah, Jordyn, Zoey and Landon, as well as his sister, Wendy, his brother, David, and their families in the UK.
No service by request.
You may offer a message of condolence at Cypress Funeral and Cremation Services for the Harman family.
