July 1944 – August 9, 2024   

Barrie passed away peacefully on August 9, 2024, at the age of 80. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Bev, son Chris (Heather) and granddaughter Addison, sister-in-law Vi (Anton), nephew Matthew (Leahann) and brother Vic. He was predeceased by his father Vic and mother Ruth Sigurdson.

Barrie graduated from Burnaby South High School and attended the University of British Columbia and Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, where he obtained his Masters Degree in Education. Barrie and Bev moved to Kamloops, B.C. in 1972, and Barrie retired from teaching in 2002. In 2007 Barrie and Bev moved to Vancouver Island to be close to their son Chris and his family.

After retirement, Barrie and Bev were fortunate to travel to many parts of the world and in the last few years to Maui to enjoy the sun, sand and ocean.

Barrie was a kind, loving and unselfish man, even at the end of his life he was more concerned about those around him than himself.

The family would like to express their deepest appreciation to all the doctors who attended him and to all the staff at the Saanich Peninsula Hospital Palliative Care Unit.

In accordance with his wishes, no funeral service will be held.
