1930 – 2016
Gangolf “Opa” Baab of Kamloops, BC passed away on September 17, 2016 at 86 years old. He is survived by his spouse Christine, with whom he shared the past 27 years, stepson Peter (Akiko) and daughter Karen (Brian) and four grandchildren, Kevin, Thomas, Katelyn and Courtney. Opa, as he was called by his grandchildren, leaves behind friends and family in Germany and Canada. He was predeceased by his son, Jamie.
Opa was born in Karlsruhe, Germany in 1930 and came to Canada in 1952. He was an avid outdoors man who would get on a horse, lead a team of packhorses and head off into “God’s Country” to merrily hunt and fish. Opa built a cabin at Scott Lake by himself and loved to take family and friends for fishing and snowmobiling excursions.
Special thanks to the staff at Royal Inland Hospital’s 7 North floor who took exceptional care of him. At his request there will be no memorial service.
