1948 – 2016
Dave died peacefully in his sleep, surrounded by his family.
He is survived by his son Jim “Jimmy” Ashton (Carmen McNabb)and daughter Jenny Halvorson, granddaughters Riley, Georgia, and Sydney Halvorson, and grandson Mitchell Halvorson. He is predeceased by his mother Ileen Ashton, father James Ashton and sister Ruth (nee Ashton) Blangy.
Dave grew up in Willow River, BC. All of us Ashtons loved going out to Willow and Dad was proud to have grown up there. Dad loved to work and was a logger, a carpet layer and a railroader for CN Rail. He retired from CN in 2009. Our Dad was a friend to many and helped many people through AA. The second A means anonymous, but Dad was proud to be an AA member and the program brought much happiness to his life. Dad was always a very social and gregarious person and so many people loved him. We all love him very much. A helping hand to anyone and he always tried to do the best he could…love and miss you Dad and Papa. What better thing can you say about a person than that he loved and was loved in return.
Dad wanted to say thank you to the nurses and doctors in the E.R. and 7th Floor at Royal Inland Hospital.
The Memorial Service will take place at 1:00 pm on Saturday, September 3, 2016 in the Elder Citizens Association Centre, 1692 10th Avenue, Prince George, BC.
