November 4, 1932 – August 31, 2026

Asaph (Ace) Ginter passed peacefully in the presence of his family on August 31, 2026, at the age of 93.

Ace was born in Poland and immigrated to Canada in 1950 with his mother and sisters, Alma and Frieda, joining their father in Manitoba. Ace soon made his way to B.C. The province of B.C., and the construction industry, must have suited him well as he worked in road construction in B.C. for more than 50 years! Ace crushed gravel for highways throughout the province and made many friends at work. No matter where we travelled in B.C., Ace delighted in telling his children that he worked on the road that they were driving on. He had an excellent memory and would tell his children specific details about these construction projects on the drive!

While visiting family in Minitonas, Manitoba, Ace met Sylvia. They married in December 1958, and were best friends and partners, including in their road construction business. Ace and Sylvia started their married life in Prince George where all of their children were born. After brief stops in Williams Lake and Ashcroft, they moved the family to Kamloops in 1978. Ace enjoyed his life in Kamloops, particularly at their home on the South Thompson River. He never expressed an interest in living anywhere else!

Ace was a Free Mason and Shriner, and a member of the Keystone Cops. Ace and Sylvia enjoyed travelling throughout the province for events with these groups, making many lasting friendships.

Ace was “bitten by the travel bug” as a young man, and enjoyed travelling with family and friends, especially after he retired. Ace and Sylvia travelled to North and South America, Europe, Asia and Africa. Ace enjoyed spending time on the beach in the sunshine, but also loved exploring new locations by car, bus, train or ship, and loved speaking to locals and tourists.

Ace was predeceased by his siblings Daniel, Arthur, Frieda and Alma. He is survived by his wife, Sylvia, and their children: Gordean Bjornson (Doug Bjornson), Gwen Ginter (Darin Heinemann), and Curt Ginter (Rhonda Ginter). He was a proud grandfather of Kieran (Alison), Keyana, Nick (Maddie) and Joey. Ace was delighted with the arrival of his first great grandchild, Sawyer, in August.

Ace requested that there be no funeral. We will celebrate Ace’s long life and legacy at a future date. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice would be appreciated.

You may offer a message of condolence at Schoening Funeral Service for the Ginter family.
