On the evening of May 5, 2024, Arnie passed away of natural causes in Kamloops, B.C. with family members at his side. He had just turned 88 years old.
Arnie was born in the Ukraine and spent his early years in central Europe. When the war broke out, the family relocated to Canada. As a boy, Arnie split his time working on the farm in Saskatchewan and going to the local school. As a young man, he moved to Kitimat where he worked for Alcan. He always worked to improve himself and was a skilled welder and millwright. It was in Kitimat that he met the love of his life, Nettie Hardychuk. Their marriage produced three fantastic children: Debra, Douglas and Donna. No doubt these children were very easy to raise and a pure joy to him.
After a long and successful career, Arnie retired allowing him to spend more time at his favourite activities. Arnie and Nettie spent many days camping and fishing on local lakes. Even though Nettie consistently out-fished him, he loved being out on the boat. During the summer, Arnie could be found at the golf course in the early mornings, then puttering around the yard and his garage during the rest of the day. In the winter, Arnie was a proud part of the Sun Peaks Antiques and skied numerous times a week. The crossover season posed a special dilemma: What should I do today…ski or golf??
After Nettie passed, Arnie moved into Chartwell assisted living facility where he met many friends and made a couple special lady-friends. Among his favourite activities were carpet bowling, dancing to live music and beating everyone at cribbage and bridge. Arnie will be missed by the staff and residents alike.
Arnie will be remembered as a strong, hardworking man who was always quick to lend a hand to anyone who needed it. He had a large repertoire of jokes-some moderately funny and some completely terrible. His dry wit and humour will be missed by many.
Arnie leaves behind three children, Debi (Richard Ward), Doug (Beverly) and Donna (Dufferin Warnock). Also left behind are five lovely grandchildren, Deven Rein (Brendan Savage), Rozalind Ward (Spencer Hammond), Linden Rein, Elizabeth Warnock and Max Warnock, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Arnie has been cremated and later this year, his ashes will be spread at an informal event at Peter Hope Lake, where Netties ashes are.
Together Again.
