March 12, 1957 — February 9, 2026
Americo Gonçalves Rodrigues passed away peacefully on February 9, 2026, at The Marjorie Willoughby Snowden Memorial Hospice Home in Kamloops, surrounded by love. Born March 12, 1957, in Ulmeiro, Portugal, to Maria Gonçalves and José Rodrigues, Americo immigrated to Canada alone at the age of fourteen, where he was welcomed into the home of his uncle and aunt and raised alongside his cousins, creating bonds that lasted a lifetime. That early courage and support shaped the hardworking, devoted family man he became.
At twenty-four, he married the love of his life, Isilda. Together they built a strong and loving home and were proud to raise their children with a deep connection to their Portuguese heritage, often returning to Portugal so their family would know their roots and extended relatives. Americo began his career as a bricklayer and later co-founded A & D Masonry with his brother, David Rodrigues. Known throughout Kamloops as “the stucco guy,” his craftsmanship can be seen on countless homes and buildings throughout the community.
He had talented hands — hands that built homes, fixed what was broken, and created pieces his grandchildren will cherish for years to come. He loved the outdoors. Hiking with music in his ears, travelling scenic roads with his trailer in tow, and time spent in nature brought him peace. He treasured early mornings on the water with a fishing rod in hand. He was generous, protective, and deeply committed to family. Nothing mattered more to him than having everyone together around the dinner table.
Americo is survived by his devoted wife, Isilda Rodrigues; his children, Sara Woods, Chelsea Kerr, and Mathew Rodrigues; and his beloved grandchildren, Cooper Kerr, Zachary Kerr, Olivia Woods, and Julia Woods. He was predeceased by his parents and his brother, Jaime Rodrigues. A Funeral Mass will be held on February 17 at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family Parish, 2797 Sunset Drive, Kamloops. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Kamloops Hospice Association. Até amanhã.
