September 19, 1944 – August 20, 2025
It is with a broken heart that I have to tell you that my dad, Allan Watte, has passed away or kicked the bucket as he would like me to say.
Allan was born in Tashme, B.C., a Japanese internment camp on September 19, 1944, to Tadaharu and Margaret Uwate.
Allan‘s family would then move to Raymond, Alberta and eventually settle in Toronto, Ontario.
In his early 20s, Allan moved out West where he found his passion for skiing.
Allan put down roots in Whitecroft, B.C. where he and his wife Kandy raised their daughter Naomi.
When Allan’s daughter was born, he thought it was time to get a “real” job, so in the mid 70s he started working for Tonto Drilling as a carpenter. His career would take him to many pipeline jobs all over the province where he made lifelong friends. In the later years, Allan worked for the movie industry building sets for movies including “An Unfinished Life”.
Whitecroft would become Allan’s home for 50 plus years where his neighbours became family including their dogs who regularly visited for treats or cookies.
Allan was passionate about the Toronto Blue Jays. He was most definitely their official armchair coach. He would yell at the TV telling them they were bums when they deserved it and cheered and clapped when they got it right. All while drinking an ice cold can of Pilsner.
Allan was one of the original “Toddies” even having a run named after him called “Watte‘s Dream”.
Allan’s smile lit up the room. His mantra was a no stress attitude hence why at 80 years old he had no gray hair.
“May you make first tracks and the beer always be cold”.
Allan was predeceased by his parents Tadaharu and Margaret Uwate and his brother Garry Uwate. He is survived by his daughter Naomi and her husband John Misera, his grandchildren Megan and Alex Thornton, grandson Hunter, sister Cathy, niece Tamerrah, nephew’s Micheal Wayne and David, ex-wife but dear friend Kandy Jacobson, Steph his Whitecroft girlfriend and countless amazing friends.
The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Dr. Hoffert and all the amazing staff on GT7 for making Allan’s passing as comfortable as possible.
We will be celebrating Al’s life on what would have been his 81st Birthday September 19 at Bottoms Bar & Grill between 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., 3160 Creekside Way, Sun Peaks, B.C.
Feel free to come cheers to a true Todd Mountain legend!
You may offer a message of condolence at Cypress Funeral and Cremation Services for the Watte family.
