Alice would like to let you know her work here is done. A mother of 4, grandmother of 10, great-grandmother of 18, and yes great, great-grandmother of 3 (What a clan.)
In her lifetime she had and beat scarlet fever, and polio, and thumbed her nose at COVID. She would tell her children and grandkids to “do as I say, or I’ll come back and haunt you.” (We know she will.)
Alice out lived 2 husbands that we are sure are waiting for her. She’s been known at the age of 94 to be outspoken and if you didn’t like it, she stuck out her tongue and said “I don’t care what you think, I’m old” before giving you a sassy grin.
Mom would like to return to the Island (Vancouver) where she grew up, and where for the last 4 years she would spend a week, walking the beaches, and sitting on the balcony drinking wine. But, with COVID, that may not happen. She made me promise not to flush her down the toilet (or she’d be back to haunt me).
Her grandchildren Kathy, Don, and Susan would like to thank her for her baking lessons, and how she would spend time to teach them to can. They are now able to teach the next generation. We are still using, and will continue to use, your recipes, Gram.
She was known at Gemstone, where she lived after her last stay at the hospital, as “The Firecracker.” She would smack the caregivers on the butt, and then give them a sassy grin just to keep them on their toes.
We’d like to take this time to thank everyone at Gemstone for all the help they have given our mother, and our stay with her on her last days.
