SUN PEAKS — It was a successful weekend up at Sun Peaks Resort for an avalanche simulation and safety exercises.

The simulation event on Saturday (Jan. 25) was led by Sun Peaks Snow Safety Supervisor & Avalanche Forecaster, with approximately 70 people attending from multiple agencies around the area, including Kamloops Search and Rescue, and Kamloops RCMP.

In an email, Director of Marketing & Communications, Christine Antoniak says Sun Peaks rarely experiences in-bounds avalanches due to the grade of terrain. However, procedures are in place that their team follows to mitigate any risks to skiers.

Sun Peaks Resort also serves as the regional hub for Avalanche Forecasting, so the information gathered and assessed by the team on a daily basis is fed to other agencies outside of Sun Peak
