Oil and Gas Commission finds fracking behind recent northeastern BC earthquakes

BRITISH COLUMBIA  — The BC Oil and Gas Commission have made a bit of a surprise admission — that the three earthquakes last month in northeastern British Columbia were caused by fracking.

The provincial regulator says the quakes near Fort St. John occurred because of fluid injections during fracking operations at a Canadian Natural Resources wellsite.

The tremors measured up to 4.5 in magnitude, but caused no damage.

Fracking operations at the multi-well pad in the lower Montney formation have been suspended pending the results of a detailed technical review.
