Province to evaluate notorious Cherry Creek intersection

KAMLOOPS — The B.C. Ministry of Transportation says it is reviewing a notorious Cherry Creek intersection to determine if improvements are warranted.

In an email response to Tobiano resident Greg Gordon, who brought the issue to her attention, Minister Claire Trevena says her engineers are looking at the Highway 1 intersection with Rodeo Drive.

Dascham video shot by Gordon last month showed a close call when a car driving westbound on the Trans Canada nearly plowed into another vehicle waiting to make a left turn at Rodeo Drive.

At the time, Gordon told CFJC Today it was not a new scenario, and one that could be alleviated with a dedicated left turn lane for westbound traffic.

In her email, Trevena told Gordon the ministry uses “a standard set of evaluations to help… prioritize highway projects.”

Trevena notes a similar evaluation at the intersection of Highway 1 and Gardi Road led to improvements there.
