KAMLOOPS — With inclement weather in the forecast, searchers are ramping up efforts to find a missing small aircraft, believed to be somewhere between Kamloops and Valemount.

The plane with two people aboard disappeared Friday, September 14, en route from Edmonton to Chilliwack.

Victoria Joint Rescue Co-ordination Centre (JRCC) Spokesperson Katelyn Moores says the search area has not changed.

“We’ve been searching extensively in the area since September 14,” said Moores. “We have one Buffalo aircraft, one Cormorant helicopter, five CASARA aircraft and one RCMP helicopter on scene.”

While the search planes are based in Kamloops, the search itself is honing in on the Blue River area.

“That is an area of high probability, based on the filed flight plan as well as the cell tower information and radar information as well,” said Moores.

Despite high cloud ceilings this week, searchers have yet to uncover any sign of the aircraft.

With a weather forecast change in the offing, Moores says it’s important that the search finds success soon.

“We did have some improved weather conditions earlier in the week and they are good this morning, as well. But it’s looking like they could deteriorate during the day today, said Moores. “There’s a weather front coming in that’s expected to bring rain, snow and ice to higher elevations. So we’ll be monitoring that closely today.”
